Privacy Policy

Last updated: May 18, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Nom ("Nom," "we," "us") collects, uses, and shares information when you use the Nom mobile app, this website, and related services (the "Service"). By using the Service, you agree to this Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. Information we collect

Information you provide

  • Account information. Your @g.ucla.edu email address, used to verify that you are a UCLA student and to create your account.
  • Profile information. Your display name, profile photo, and any other details you choose to add to your profile.
  • Content you post. Marketplace listings, event details, reviews, ratings, photos, and messages or other text you submit.
  • Nutrition and meal tracking. Meals and dining items you choose to track in the app.
  • Feedback and support. Reports, feedback, and any information you send when you contact us.

Information collected automatically

  • Device identifier. Nom generates an account identifier from your device's iCloud account, with a per-device fallback identifier if iCloud is unavailable. This is how your account is recognized across sessions. We do not use it to identify you outside the Service.
  • Location. If you grant location permission, the app uses your location to show nearby dining halls, locations, and events. You can deny or revoke this permission in your device settings; some location-based features will not work without it.
  • Usage and diagnostic data. We log app activity, crashes, and performance information to operate and improve the Service. Our servers also record request logs and error logs.

2. How we use information

  • To create and maintain your account and verify UCLA eligibility.
  • To operate core features: events, the marketplace, dining information, reviews and ratings, and meal tracking.
  • To send push notifications you have opted into, such as event reminders and updates.
  • To keep the Service safe, including moderation, fraud prevention, and enforcing our Terms of Service.
  • To diagnose problems, fix bugs, and improve the Service.
  • To respond to your reports, feedback, and support requests.

3. Service providers

We use third-party providers to run the Service. They process information on our behalf and only for the purposes described here:

  • Google Firebase. We use Firebase for stored user data, push notifications, analytics, crash reporting, and feature configuration. Firebase processes data under Google's privacy terms.
  • Amazon Web Services. Our backend servers and database run on AWS, which hosts the data needed to operate the Service.
  • Apple. The app uses Apple's iCloud account system to derive your account identifier and is distributed through the App Store.

4. How information is shared

  • With other users. Content you post (listings, events, reviews, profile name and photo) is visible to other verified users of the Service. Do not post anything you want to keep private.
  • For legal reasons. We may disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of Nom, our users, or others. Serious violations may be reported to UCLA or law enforcement.
  • In a business transfer. If Nom is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with advertisers.

5. Data retention

We keep your information for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the Service. When you delete your account, we delete or de-identify your personal information within a reasonable period, except where we are required to retain it by law or need it to resolve disputes or enforce our agreements. Diagnostic logs are kept only for a limited period.

6. Your choices and rights

  • Location. Grant or revoke location access at any time in your device settings.
  • Notifications. Turn push notifications off in your device settings.
  • Access and deletion. You can delete your account at any time, which removes your profile and content from the Service. You may also email us to request a copy of your information or its deletion.
  • California residents. California law gives you rights to access, delete, and correct your personal information, and to not be discriminated against for exercising those rights. To make a request, contact us using the details below.

7. Children

The Service is intended for UCLA students and is not directed to children under 13. You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.

8. Security

We take reasonable measures to protect your information, but no method of transmission or storage is completely secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security. If you believe your account has been compromised, contact us at support@nom-app.com.

9. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, for material changes, provide reasonable notice through the Service. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the updated Policy.
